Diagnosing Varicose Veins

SYMPTOMS

DIAGNOSIS
At Vein Central, Board-Certified surgeons and certified vascular technologists determine the best treatment for each patient by using Venous Duplex Ultrasound. The testing is painless and is performed in the ICAVL-accredited Vascular Laboratory located in the Vein Central office. Once the surgeon has made the diagnosis, the patient is ready for the most appropriate treatment.

INSURANCE COVERAGE
Typically, if the testing in the Vascular Lab demonstrates abnormal valves in varicose veins, treatment of those veins is considered a covered service by most insurance companies. However, most carriers require patients to wear prescription compression stockings before they authorize laser treatment or microphlebectomy. Currently, most insurance carriers require patients to pay for prescription stockings.

The red color in this image of the greater saphenous vein demonstrates backward blood flow, termed reflux. Normal blood flow would be shown as blue.

Diagnosis Evaluation
The images obtained from the ultrasound are essential for accurate diagnosis and treatment.
