Compression Therapy

It is important that a trained Vein Central professional measure a patient's leg(s) to determine the appropriate degree and size of compression therapy.

What is compression therapy?

Compression therapy can be purchased in the form of stockings, socks, pantyhose or bandages. The stockings can be made from a wide variety of materials such as nylon, cotton, spandex, and natural rubber. By compressing the limbs, the stockings decrease pressure in veins, prevent the deterioration of vein walls and relieve aching and heavy legs.

Who uses compression therapy?

Physicians recommend that anyone at risk of varicose veins wear compression stockings.

The stockings are great for pregnancy and long-distance travel.

Insurance companies require that patients wear compression stockings for a certain amount of time before further treatments are performed.

Compression stockings must be worn for a period of time after treatments to ensure a good result.

Many athletes wear compression stockings during workouts and competitions to decrease soreness.

How do I get the right compression stockings?

Compression stockings, socks and pantyhose come in a variety of colors, styles and sizes. The stockings are available in different degrees of compression depending on the severity of the varicose veins.

It is important that a trained Vein Central professional measure a patient's leg(s) to determine the appropriate degree and size of compression therapy.

Will insurance cover the cost of compression stockings ?

Currently, most insurance companies do not cover the cost of prescription stockings.
